Sonny Bill didn't want to die wondering if he was good enough

Sonny Bill Williams faced a massive media scrum on Friday afternoon as the former Kiwis, BulldogS and Toulon star was unveiled by his new province Canterbury.

Williams sported a Canterbury hoodie to ward off the Christchurch cold as he fielded questions from the press pack about how he copes with that sort of relentless coverage, the knee surgery that's keeping him out of the provincial pre-season, and what swayed his decision to come back to New Zealand.

He says just knowing that even if he doesn't make the All Blacks, he'll know that he gave it a good shot when he's sitting back at 40 or 50.

Sonny Bill Williams says receiving former coach Tana Umaga's last All Black jersey was key as was hearing Test match war stories from his international team-mates in France.
