New Zealand's Davis Cup tennis semi-final with Pakistan is all square at one match apiece after the first day at Hawera.

A dramatic second singles game saw Pakistan 's Aisam Qureshi winning the fifth set 15-13 over New Zealand debutant Michael Venus.

New Zealand No.1 Rubin Statham thrashed Pakistan's No.2 Aqeel Khan in straight sets in the opening clash - but Pakistani No.1 Quresh beat Venus in the Asia/Oceania Group II semi-final in an epic match which lasted four and a half hours, with the final set taking just over two hours alone.

The Pakistani eventually won 7-6 4-6 6-2 2-6 15-13, despite Venus having three match points.

The US-based Venus was actually serving for the match at 5-2 in the fifth set but was broken and then Qureshi held serve.
