Bowlers put Pakistan in control in first Test against Australia

2:37 pm on 14 July 2010

The Pakistan cricket team are on top after the first day of the first Test against Australia in England, after Ricky Ponting's batsman had a first innings meltdown.

Australia were sitting pretty at 171 for two but collapsed to be 229 for nine at stumps with Mohammad Asif claiming three wickets in seven balls either side of tea to swing the momentum back in Pakistan's favour.

The Pakistan vice-captain Salman Butt says the bowlers deserve the credit for putting his side in control of the test.

This series is being played in England because of security concerns in Pakistan.
