The France striker Thierry Henry is to play football in the United States.

Henry's signed for the the Major League Soccer side, the New York Red Bulls.

The American club says the former Juventus and Arsenal forward joins New York from Barcelona in a "multi-year" deal,.

The 32-year-old joins England's David Beckham and the former Swedish international Freddie Ljungberg among the league's 'designated players' who have most of their salary paid outside of their team's salary cap.

Henry started out at Monaco and Juventus before spending eight seasons with Arsenal, helping the London club win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.

He almost quit international football after he was heavily criticised for his handball that allowed France to qualify for the World Cup ahead of Ireland.

Henry still had a year to run on his Barca contract but the Spanish giants agreed to release him early.
