Gasnier scores match-winner over Souths

8:31 am on 17 July 2010

Mark Gasnier scored the match-winner for St George Illawarra as the National Rugby League leaders powered home to beat South Sydney 16-13 at ANZ Stadium.

Gasnier only came back from French rugby against Penrith two weeks ago, but showed why the Dragons went to so much trouble to get him back, sprinting 20 metres for his first NRL try in almost two years.

No joy for the home sides on Friday night as Brisbane also came from behind to beat Gold Coast 24-10 at Skilled Park.

The Titans had led 10-6 after enjoying a mountain of possession in the opening 40 minutes.

But winger Antonio Winterstein's second try following some brilliant play from fullback Josh Hoffman knocked the stuffing out of the Titans.

Hoffman picked up a low pass off his boots and in the same motion he grubber-kicked ahead down the left touch-line for Winterstein to match Hoffman's effort, scooping the ball up low down before diving over.

Winterstein had put Brisbane ahead 12-10 with a 54th-minute try after the Broncos trailed 10-6 at the break.
