Breakthrough finally at Champions Trophy - still no win though

3:47 pm on 18 July 2010

The New Zealand women's hockey team has claimed its first point of the Champions Trophy tournament with a 2-2 draw with England at Nottingham.

Although England dominated the early stages of the game it was New Zealand who struck first when Piki Hamahona raced down the right and fired just inside the left post on nine minutes.

The Black Sticks struck again in the 18th minute through Gemma Flynn from open play, but England's Nicola White pulled a goal back a minute later before Crista Cullen slammed in an equaliser just before half-time from an expertly placed penalty corner.

There was no score in the second half.

New Zealand play China for 5th place tonight.
