The Australian golfers, Rod Pampling and Stuart Appleby, are well-placed to capitalise on the absence of most of the US PGA Tour's best players.

With the bigger names away at the British Open at St Andrews, the duo are hoping to improve on recent performances, at the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Pampling shot a five-under-par 67 in the third round to be tied fourth, two shots behind leader and tournament host, Scott McCarron.

Appleby shot a 68 to be two shots further back, tied 10th heading into the final round.
