Tiger blames his putting for poor British Open showing

The world golf number one Tiger Woods is blaming his poor putting for failing to mount a serious Open challenge at St Andrews.

Woods started the final round nine shots off the lead but any hope of a fourth Open title ended with two double bogeys on the front nine on the way to a final-round even par 72, finishing three under for the tournament in 18th place.

South African Louis Ooshuizen ran away with the title, winning by seven shots from England's Lee Westwood.

Woods has failed to win any of the three majors he has played since he returned from a five-month break from the game.

World number two Phil Mickelson finished at one over for the tournament as did the defending champion Stewart Cink.
