Third time lucky for Springboks with Irish referee?

4:24 pm on 21 July 2010

South Africa's hoping it will be third time lucky, when it comes to having an Irish referee for Saturday night's tri nations rugby test against Australia in Brisbane.

George Clancy has been appointed as the third Irishman to control a Tri-Nations match in as many weeks, and the South Africans have been bewildered and frustrated by their law interpretation at the tackle area.

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has threatened to push the boundaries more by becoming more street smart after his side's opening two losses to the All Blacks.

But they go into the match without a specialist openside flanker, with number eight Ryan Kankowski marking Australia's openside David Pocock.

Kankowski wasn't a member of South Africa's original 39-man squad this season and his selection to quicken the Springboks forward pack will again test their skills at the breakdown.
