Wallabies to appeal suspension

7:30 am on 26 July 2010

The Wallabies are expected to appeal the two match suspension of first five Quade Cooper which could rule him out of this weekend's Tri-Nations test against the All Blacks in Melbourne and the return match in Christchurch.

Cooper's suspension, for a spear tackle on his opposite number Morne Steyn, angered and shocked the Australians who'd been jubilant after their 30-13 win over the Springboks in Brisbane.

The Wallabies are expected to base their appeal on the severity of the sentence.

Subject to the appeal, Tokoroa-born Cooper might have to wait until September to play his first test against the All Blacks.
