The New Zealand sprinter Eddie Dawkins is finding top form in the United States, as he prepares for the Commonwealth Games.

The Southland rider has become the first New Zealander two win the prestigious Keirin Cup at the track cycling mecca of Trexlertown in Pennsylvania.

Dawkins cut through the middle of the pack from near the rear of the six-man final and managed to hold off the late charge from the American champion and Olympian Giddeon Massie.

He says he won't be the last New Zealander to win the Cup as there's a lot of depth in the elite programme.
