Aussie first five's two match ban stands

7:29 am on 29 July 2010

The two match ban on the Wallabies first five Quade Cooper will stand after a SANZAR judicial panel dismissed his appeal last night in Melbourne.

The suspension follows a dangerous tackle on his South African opposite number Morne Steyn in Brisbane last weekend, so he'll miss the coming two tests against the All Blacks.

Cooper's legal counsel and the Wallabies coach Robbie Deans had argued during a lengthy hearing that bans on the Springboks Jean de Villiers and Jaque Fourie have turned out to be more lenient, because they can serve their time by sitting out provincial Currie Cup matches in South Africa.

Following last night's decision the former Wallaby Tim Horan has called for tournament-specific suspensions in the Tri-Nations.
