Phoenix sign up two more players

Updated at 8:31 am on 31 July 2010

The Wellington Phoenix has signed two more players for the upcoming A-League football season, with Argentine midfielder Oscar Roberto Cornejo and young Australian striker Mirjan Pavlovic joining the club.

Both players have been trialling with the Phoenix in recent weeks.

Cornejo made his first appearance against his countrymen when the Phoenix beat Argentine club Boca Juniors last week.

An attacking midfielder, he's played for clubs in Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Peru.

The 21-year-old Pavlovic has previously played for the Newcastle Jets.

Coach Ricki Herbert says Cornejo provides a different attacking option and is comfortable taking opposition players on one-on-one.

He says the club's lacked a creative midfielder over the past couple of seasons.

Both players have signed one-year deals.
