Calamity James heads down a division

England's World Cup goalkeeper David James has made a surprise switch to a second division football side.

James has signed a one-year deal to play for Bristol City in the Championship.

The 39-year-old left Portsmouth following the club's relegation from the Premier League last season.

He then headed to World Cup, where he played the last three games after Rob Green was dropped following a howler in the opener.

James has also played in the Premier League with Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham United and Manchester City and won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.
