The English golfer Ross Fisher gave himself a massive boost in his quest for selection in Europe's Ryder Cup team by defying the challenge of the local favourite Padraig Harrington to win the Irish Open in Killarney by two strrokes.

Fisher set up his victory with a second round of 61 which gave him a three shot lead, and his victory moves him into an automatic selection spot for the Ryder Cup match against the United States early October in Wales.
