Hamilton pessimistic about championship hopes

Formula One has broken up for the summer with the leaders Red Bull and Mark Webber in the mood for a holiday, while McLaren are chafing at having to shut up shop just when they most need to speed up development.

McLaren closed their Woking factory for two weeks from the stroke of midnight on Sunday as part of an agreement signed by all teams to enable staff to relax with families and recharge their batteries in a demanding 19-race season.

But Lewis Hamilton has warned his team that their Formula One title hopes are hanging by "a thin thread" after he failed to finish the Hungarian Grand Prix.

And his boss Martin Whitmarsh says he'd love to be able to plough on and sort things out before the season resumes at the end of this month in Belgium.
