Samoa bemoan tight eligibility laws

The Samoan netball coach Linda Vagana says restrictive eligibility laws are preventing a number of Pacific Island players from playing international netball.

Vagana is trying to prepare a side to take on the Silver Ferns in Porirua this weekend and then take part in the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October.

She says too many young players are being forced to decide at a very early age between playing international netball or staying eligible for the likes of New Zealand and Australia in order to help their chances of getting contracts in the trans-tasman championship.

Vagana says she wouldn't target players who were genuine prospects for the Silver Ferns but says it's unfortunate there are a number of club and provincial players who could be playing international netball but aren't.
