Football's A-League newcomers Melbourne Heart have lost 1-0 to the Central Coast Mariners in their debut as the competition's 11th franchise.
A crowd of 11,000 showed up in Melbourne but they didn't have much to cheer about, with the Mariners in control for all but the first 10 minutes.
The Wellington Phoenix have a bye in the opening round and they start their season next Friday against Gold Coast United.
