The former Premier League football club Portsmouth have won a High Court battle with British Tax Authorities, saving them from extinction.
Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs wanted to block a proposal put together by Portsmouth's administrators to help the team out of administration, claiming the deal gave preference to football creditors, including players, while they would receive much less.
But the Tax Authority won't be appealing the decision, so Portsmouth have avoided the threat of liquidation, and they're free to kick off the new season this weekend in the Championship, British football's second tier competition.
