England's football players who flopped at the World Cup were jeered and booed as Manchester United dominated Chelsea in the season-opening community Shield match at Wembley.
The Red Devils scored a well-deserved 3-1 win over last year's League and Cup double winners, but in the early stages of the game, Blues fans had a go at the likes of Wayne Rooney while in turn the London club's English internationals were verbally abused by the Manchester side's supporters.
The Community Shield is rarely a pointer to the battles to come over the next nine months, but it's a game managers want to win and it gave United manager Alex Ferguson the 45th trophy of his managerial career.
The Wembley groundstaff deserved an award too, as the playing surface which has come in for so much criticism since the stadium was opened three years ago looked as superb at the end as it did at the start.
