Pitting error costs Dixon podium chance

6:40 pm on 9 August 2010

The New Zealand racing driver Scott Dixon has finished fifth in the Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio and remains third overall behind Will Power and Dario Franchitti.

Dixon's Target team-mate Franchitti won with the Australian Power second ahead of his Penske team-mate Helio Castroneves.

Dixon says his car was running well before the first pit stop and felt fast enough to finish at least third but then a pneumatic gun jammed in the pits.

He says it's hard making up ground after losing seven or eight spots so fifth isn't too bad but they have to eliminate mistakes in pit lane.

Dixon's slipped to 82 points behind Power and 42 behind Franchitti.

The next round's in Sonoma in Northern California in a fortnight.
