Martin O'Neill has resigned as manager of the English Premier League Football Club Aston Villa, five days before the start of the new season.
It's believed O'Neill's relationship with owner Randy Lerner had deteriorated beyond repair, and the manager had become disillusioned about having to sell his best players.
The 59 year old Ulsterman said he was sad to be leaving the club after taking them to their third successive 6th place in the Premier League last season, and to the League Cup final.
