The newly appointed International Cricket Council vice-president New Zealander Alan Isaac says Sir John Anderson, New Zealand cricket's intial canditate for the role, encouraged him to take up the opportunity.
Cricket Australia (CA) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC), whose turn it was to put forward a candidate for the post, opted for Isaac after their original nomination, former Australia Prime Minister John Howard, failed to get sufficient backing from the ICC board and Anderson made himself unavailable.
Isaac says it wasn't until Sir John recommended he seek appointment that he considered the role.
Issac will hold the vice-presidency from 2010-12 before ascending to the presidency of ICC.
