Hunt for new Aston Villa manager intensifies

8:14 am on 11 August 2010

The Aston Villa football club have begun their search for a new manager following Martin O'Neill's resignation just five days before the start of the English Premier League season.

O'Neill spent four years in charge at Villa Park, and although no official reason has been given it's thought he was frustrated at the prospect of having to sell his best players and not having funds to invest.

The United States manager Bob Bradley is the favourite to succeed O'Neill.

But there are two better known candidates who would also like the job, former Manchester City and England manager Sven Goran Eriksson and former Aston Villa star Gareth Southgate, who has experience managing Middlesborough.
