Good times for Southland Rugby

10:45 am on 12 August 2010

Southland rugby is on a high at the moment and that's been capped off with the announcement that co-coach Simon Culhane will be Jamie Joseph's assistant at the Highlanders Super franchise next year.

Culhane, who has been in charge in Southland in since 2005, will continue in the NPC until the end of the season.... while his co-coach David Henderson looks set to take full control of the side next season.

But of more importance for Henderson is their defence of the Ranfurly Shield this weekend against the high-flying Counties-Manukau.

Henderson says they've learned they can't defend the Shield, instead they have to win it each week they're at home.

He says they went into their shell a but against Otago but they've got that game out of their systems and want to go back to playing expansive rugby.
