Ryan Archibald to miss Commonwealth Games

The former captain Ryan Archibald is one of several veteran players missing from the New Zealand men's hockey team for the Commonwealth Games.

Archibald's decided he needs to concentrate on his work in the Netherlands and Blair Hopping's also ruled himself out for personal reasons.

They aren't retiring though and hope to try to make the team for the London Olympics.

The captain Phil Burrows says Archibald's 13 years of international experience will leave an especially big hole.

Burrows says preparation includes a home series with Korea and matches in Malaysia on the way to India.
