Raiders stand down Carney and Goodwin

7:08 am on 23 July 2008

The trouble-prone Canberra Raiders playmaker Todd Carney and team mate Bronx Goodwin have been stood down indefinitely pending a police investigation.

They are helping police with their inquiries after an alleged assault at a Canberra nightspot early Monday morning.

The National Rugby League Club's chief executive Don Furner says suspension's the best option until the inquiries are sorted out.

He won't comment on any possible terms in the players' contracts that would see them face further disciplinary action if any misbehaviour is proved.

Carney has been in trouble before. Last year the halfback was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and banned from driving for five year after pleading guilty to a string of driving offences.
