Playing decision will be up to McCaw

7:56 am on 23 July 2008

It'll probably be late Thursday or even Friday before a decision is made on whether Richie McCaw will play against the Wallabies in Sydney this weekend.

He's been bracketed with Daniel Braid after recovering from an ankle injury.

Coach Graham Henry says it'll be up to McCaw to decide if he's ready to play, as he's up against two of the best number sevens in the world in Phil Waugh and George Smith, so if he's not 100 percent then he won't be good enough.

But if McCaw thinks he can be competitive then he'll play.

Meanwhile Ali Williams continues to improve with the ankle injury that has bothered him for the last month.

Henry admits he and Brad Thorn are important to the side and they're continuing to manage Williams.

Williams may just have to play with a niggle but his training has been better than in the lead-up to the Dunedin test.
