Norman gets invite to US PGA

The Australian golfer Greg Norman will decide whether he will take part in the USPGA Championship in the next 24 hours.

The 53-year-old received an invitation to play at Oakland Hills on the 7th of August after finishing joint third in the British Open at Royal Birkdale last week.

But Norman, who is set to take part in the Seniors Open at Royal Troon this week says he already has something else on his schedule then.

The two-time Open champion came close to adding a third title after taking a one-stroke lead into the final nine at Royal Birkdale, only to languish six strokes behind eventual winner Padraig Harrington.

But despite the disappointment of missing out on the Claret Jug, Norman is confident he can continue his excellent form at the Seniors Open at Troon.

Norman is one of the star-studded names at the Ayrshire course, which includes 20 major winners in the field.

Ryder Cup greats Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam all make their Senior Open debuts.... while there are 3 New Zealanders in the field, Sir Bob Charles, Simon owen and Jim Lapsley.

Defending champion Tom Watson is chasing a record fourth Senior Open title on the same course where he claimed the fourth of his five Open titles in 1982.
