Sri Lankan first innings continues

5:55 am on 25 July 2008

The Sri Lankan cricketers have finished the second day of the opening test against India at 422 for 2 in their first innings in Colombo.

Opener Malinda Warnapura scored 115, Mahela Jayawardene 136 and Tillakaratne Samaraweera is unbeaten on 111.

Jayawardene's century was the 23rd of his career and his ninth at the Sinhalese Sports Club, a record for the most centuries at a single venue that he now shares with Australian great Donald Bradman.

India's bowlers were frustrated by a flat and slow pitch during a wicket-less morning session.

The day featured the first third umpire review in an ICC referrals trial when India appealed against a not out lbw decision for Warnapura off Harbhajan Singh.

Third umpire Rudi Koertzen agreed with on-field official Mark Benson after TV replays showed the ball would have missed leg stump.

Teams are allowed three unsuccessful appeals per innings.
