NZ Olympic football team beaten

The New Zealand men's Olympic football team has been beaten 2-1 by Indonesia in an Olympic warmup match in Jakarta.

The New Zealand under 23 side was down 2-nil after just half an hour, but Jeremy Brockie got one back just before the break.

Neither team could add to the score after the break although Shaun van Rooyen (twice), Craig Henderson and Brockie went close to finding an equaliser.

Fresh-off-the-plane striker Chris Killen played 75 minutes and Simon Elliott came off the bench for the last half hour, with New Zealand coach Stu Jacobs pleased with the introduction the two over-age players.

Despite temperatures still topping 30 degrees as the sides kicked off, New Zealand had enough in the tank to finish strongly with Jacobs seeing it as a sign his side were acclimatising well and peaking at the right time just two weeks out from their Olympic opener against China in Shenyang on August 7th.

The Oly-Whites finish their Olympic build-up with a match against Indonesian Super League club Persija Jakarta on Saturday night.
