NRL calls on IRB to intervene in Sonny Bill issue

7:09 am on 28 July 2008

The National Rugby League's chief executive David Gallop says the Canterbury Bulldogs Kiwi league star Sonny Bill Williams is clearly troubled, and he's appealed to the International Rugby Board to prevent him from playing rugby in Europe.

After Williams sensational walkout from the Bulldogs at the weekend, in the second season of a 5-year contract to purse a rugby contract in France, Gallop says the future of both codes depends on the IRB's response because Williams is clearly breaking his contract.
