Francisco Javier Fernandez has set a world record in the 10,000 metre race walk with a time of 37 minutes and 53.09 seconds at the Spanish national champs in the Canary Islands.
Fernandez beat the record set by Italy's Ivano Brugnetti at the 2004 Olympics in Athens by five seconds.
