Sonny Bill Williams has gone into hiding in London amid a furore over his plan to hold talks with French rugby union club Toulon.
The Bulldogs star landed at Heathrow airport aboard a British Airways flight from Singapore shortly yesterday but was held up leaving the airport for several hours.
The 22-year-old New Zealander is believed to be travelling on a Samoan passport and could have run into problems if he did not have the correct visa to allow him to enter France.
After emerging from immigration more than five hours after his plane landed, Williams climbed into one of London's traditional black cabs with another man and disappeared into the city's traffic, giving waiting journalists the slip.
According to the consulate's website, Samoan passport holders can obtain a visa to visit France within a "few hours" of lodging an application at the consulate.
