The English Premier League football club Liverpool has signed Ireland captain Robbie Keane from Tottenham Hotspur for almost $51 million.
The 28-year-old striker, who spent six years at the London club, has signed a four-year contract with the Anfield club.
Tottenham say the deal could rise to $53.5 million but are disappointed with the manner in which the transfer was conducted.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy says Keane's move is not a transfer so much as an enforced sale, following the news that not only did Liverpool want Ireland's all-time highest goalscorer but that Keane also wanted to go.
Tottenham reported Liverpool to the Premier League over their pursuit of Keane last week but have agreed to drop the complaint after their rivals apologised for the way its website reported comments made by manager Rafa Benitez.
