Williams due to meet Umaga

The absent without leave Kiwi league star Sonny Bill Williams is expected to meet Toulon's coach Tana Umaga this week.

The French rugby club's president Mourad Boudjellal has told the sports daily L'Equipe the meeting is imminent.

Boudjellal says it is not a simple transfer but if the International Rugby Board authorises the change of code it will be an enormous opportunity for his club.

Williams has been issued with a subpoena to face the New South Wales Supreme Court court next week.

It's the first step in the Bulldogs' attempt to stop him playing rugby for a club reportedly prepared to pay $3 million for the next two years.

The NRL chief executive David Gallop has also called on the IRB to block the 22-year-old's registration in response to his departure from the Bulldogs, despite being contracted for another four years.
