The former Silver Ferns coach Lyn Gunson believes the New Zealand teams will have learnt much more than their Australian counterparts in the first year of the inaugural Trans Tasman netball competition.
The New South Wales Swifts won the competition last night in Sydney trouncing the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 65-56 in the final.
The Magic was the only New Zealand franchise to make the final four while another concern was that no New Zealand team managed to win a match in Australia during the competition.
Gunson says the franchises will now have a greater understanding of what's needed in a professional environment.
She says they'll also be able to cope better with the travelling involved although she doesn't see that as the major cause of the failure to win in Australia.
She says players need to be able to cope with greater opposition analysis and adjust their play accordingly.
