New Zealand's Commonwealth Games 1500 metres champion Nick Willis has completed his preparations for the Olympics, finishing third at a Grand Prix meeting in Monaco in three minutes 33.51 seconds.

It's his best performance this season but is still 1.34 seconds outside his national record of 3m 32.17s, set in Paris two years ago.

Daniel Komen won in three minutes 31.49s, just under half a second ahead of another Kenyan, Shedrack Korir.

At the same meeting Yelene Isinbayeva of Russia added a further centimetre to her world pole vault record, clearing 5.04 metres.

Meanwhile in Townsville on Tuesday, Valerie Vili had the shot put out to 20.08 metres, which she's pleased with.

However, one of Vili's main rivals, Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus, reached 20.98 metres there last weekend.
