MacDonald not going to be risked, says ABs doctor

The All Blacks backline is in for another reshuffle with Leon MacDonald ruled out of Saturday night's Tri-Nations test in Auckland after taking longer than expected to fully recover from a head knock.

MacDonald missed Saturday's loss to the Wallabies in Sydney after he was injured late in the second test loss to the Springboks in Dunedin.

He had been named at fullback for the match at Eden Park with Mils Muiliana moving to right wing.

The team's doctor Deb Robinson says MacDonald's symptoms aren't serious but because he's been concussed in the past they're taking no chances.

Decisions on the fitness of halfbacks Jimmy Cowan and Andy Ellis and hooker Andrew Hore are due tomorrow.

Meanwhile the national provincial rugby competition also kicks off tomorrow night, with Bay of Plenty playing Tasman in Blenheim and Northland hosting Waikato, who've added the All Blacks loose forward Sione Lauaki to the reserves.
