The former Australian and Queensland number eight John Roe has announced his retirement from rugby due to a persistent shoulder injury.

The 31-year-old Roe made his Wallabies debut at the 2003 World Cup and won 19 test caps, and he played more than 100 games for Queensland.

He'll now concentrate on his medical career.
