Korean TV Station Broadcasts Opening Ceremony Rehearsal

4:20 pm on 31 July 2008

Relations between China and South Korea have been dealt a blow after a Korean television station secretly filmed the dress rehearsal for the Olympic opening ceremony in Beijing.

The station says it took the footage legitimately but the broadcast is certain to anger organisers who reportedly made performers sign confidentiality agreements not to divulge details of next Friday's ceremony.

The network aired just over a minute of footage, including scenes depicting the past and future of Chinese culture and the unrolling of a huge scroll.

The network didn't show the lighting of the Olympic flame but reported that a golden phoenix was expected to swoop down into the stadium at the climax of the event.

Chinese Internet users have accused the channel of breaking state secrecy laws by showing the footage.
