All Blacks may lose MacDonald for South Africa trip

It looks as if the All Blacks may head for South Africa without fullback Leon MacDonald after the lingering effects of another head injury ruled him out of Saturday night's sold-out Tri Nations and Bledisloe Cup test against Australia in Auckland.

After saying the 57-test veteran had missed the loss to the Wallabies in Sydney because of hip, knee and elbow injuries, All Black management said on Wednesday that MacDonald was still recovering from a head knock.

McDonald suffered the blow late in the second Test against the Springboks in Dunedin.

The backs coach Wayne Smith says that wasn't disclosed initally because, given the nature of the injury, it was felt MacDonald, like anyone else, deserved some confidentiality.
