China holds firm on internet restrictions

China has no intention of backing away from its internet restrictions at the Beijing Olympic Games, despite an international outcry.

Foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao says China is determined to implement the regulations.

Sites blocked include those for human rights group Amnesty International, the Tibet government-in-exile, press freedom watchdog Reporters Without Borders and various Chinese dissident organisations including the banned spiritual movement Falun Gong, which China regards as an "evil cult".

The Games organising committee BOCOG has washed its hands of the matter and says it's not the authority in charge of the internet industry in China.
