Ivanovic keeps nose in front in battle for number one

The world number one tennis player, Ana Ivanovic, has battled her way into the third round of the Montreal Cup to keep her nose in front in the fight for the top ranking which will be revealed next week.

Playing her first event since a shock third-round exit at Wimbledon, Ivanovic arrived with her top ranking under serious threat from fellow Serb Jelena Jankovic and Russian Maria Sharapova, who withdrew yesterday because of injury.

Ivanovic has opened her hardcourt campaign with a laboured three set win win over Czech teenager Petra Kvitova while Jankovic has dispatched local hope Aleksandra Wozniak in straight sets to reach the last 16.
