Colin Cooper has extended his NZRU contract until 2010.
The 49-year-old coach guided the Hurricanes to the final of the Super 14 in 2006 and semifinal appearances in 2003, 2005 and 2008.
He was assistant coach of the Crusaders when they won the competition in 2002 and was co-coach of the Junior All Blacks on the team's unbeaten tour of Australia in 2005 and IRB Pacific Nations Cup success in 2006 and 2007.
