The captain of the New Zealand women's football team says they're ready to kick off the country's Olympic campaign, against Japan tomorrow night.

The Football Ferns are the first Olympians in action, at Qinhaungdao - although the main events don't begin until the weekend in Beijing.

Skipper Hayley Moorwood says the team, though young, are experienced and ready for the challenge.

Kick-off for the Japan game and hence New Zealand's Olympics is nine o'clock Wednesday night.
