Sonny Bill's rugby debut may be held back by lawsuit

3:23 pm on 6 August 2008

The New South Wales Supreme Court has approved a last-ditch effort from legal teams representing the National Rugby League and the Canterbury Bulldogs to prevent Sonny Bill Williams from playing his first rugby match in France on Friday.

Williams is on the team sheet at the Tana Umaga-caoched Toulon rugby club but the court will on Friday hear an application for an injunction against the New Zealand international's plan to play later that day in a friendly.

Back in Auckland, Warriors fullback Wade McKinnon is to make his long-awaited return from knee surgery in Saturday night's NRL game against Brisbane at Mt Smart.

Lance Hohaia drops to the bench.
