A hundred NZ athletes marching in ceremony

12:19 pm on 8 August 2008

More than 100 members of the New Zealand Olympic team are expected to march in the Opening Ceremony of the Games in Beijing tonight.

This is a lot more than previously expected. It was earlier expected that no more than 50 would make it to the ceremony given that competition starts the next day and a number of sports are based away from the Chinese capital.

Sports marching in the Opening Ceremony will include representatives from cycling, sailing, equestrian, basketball and swimming.

The team will leave the Athletes Village at 11pm New Zealand time Friday night but are not expected to enter the stadium until nearer three o'clock Saturday morning.
