The NRL rugby league star Sonny Bill Williams has defied a court order and made his rugby union debut in the south of France.
The Kiwi international was part of Toulon's run-on side in the French club's pre-season friendly against second tier team Carqueiranne-Hyeres.
Williams started the match on the left wing and got his first touch in the fifth minute of the game.
The ex-rugby league star's arrival at the ground was shrouded in secrecy so he could avoid being personally served with a NSW supreme court injunction banning him from playing for Toulon.
Williams was driven into the ground in a car before his teammates arrived on a bus.
Among the sold out crowd of 3,000 were boxer Anthony Mundine and Williams' agent Khoder Nasser.
