American swimmer Michael Phelps is still on course to win eight gold medals at the one Olympic Games but he has his team mates to thank for his second gold in Beijing on Monday.
Phelps and his 4x100 metres freestyle relay team looked to be heading for silver before a storming final 50 metres from Jason Lezak saw the Americans edge out France by a fingernail and in world record time.
The Americans clocked three minutes and 8.24 seconds.
Australia won the bronze.
